The big event at Comic-Con tonight -- no, today -- no of the year -- was Marvel's panel. Maybe it won't be walk away as the most talked about, as far as revelations go (that'd be the Superman/Batman thing by Warner Bros.), but it was always the hottest ticket and it didn't disappoint whatsoever. And there was at least one big announcement of the title/villain for The Avengers 2. Before that, the crowd at Hall H got to see new, exciting, never before seen (and so far exclusively to them) footage from upcoming Marvel Studios tentpoles Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and, most astonishing of all since it just started shooting, Guardians of the Galaxy.
Reactions hit the Twittersphere like Mjolnir banging aganst Cap's shield. It was loud and exciting and powerful. A lot of the responses, especially for The Winter Soldier, were so filled with exclamatory profanity that I couldn't even embed them below. That's how incredible people found the material. Both sequels were particularly noted as looking better than their originals, and each sounds much darker than the predecessors. The Dark World couldn't be compared enough to Game of Thrones, especially given a hint of dismemberment. And The Winter Soldier seems to deal with some political commentary on how "freedom" is fought for these days, very Bourne-ish too.
As for Guardians, just from the bit shown it sounds like a total blast. Something unlike we've ever seen before. That year and two weeks is going to be pretty hard to wait out.
