Rumors have been circulating for months about what plans Fox had to bring the Alien Quadrilogy to BD. It's already available on DVD in a handsome nine-disc boxed set that contains exhaustive extras and alternate versions of the movies. Would the Blu-ray retain all this material and would Fox wait until Scott’s Alien prequel in 2011 to give it to us? “We’re all screwed, man!” screamed Bill Paxton in Aliens, but not in this case. According to a Digital Bits report, studio and industry sources confirm that the Alien Quadrilogy BD set will be released some time in 2010, will retain all the extras from the DVD set, and will include substantial new BD-exclusive content as well.
Along with the Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Lord of the Rings movies, the Alien Quadrilogy is like the Holy Grail of Blu-rays. Ridley Scott’s 1979 original remains one of the scariest movies of all time and features Sigourney Weaver's iconic performance as Lt. Ellen Ripley, perhaps the toughest female character in film history. She returns in James Cameron’s Aliens, which is one of the most thrilling action films ever. David Fincher’s depressing Alien3 and Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s bizarre Alien: Resurrection round out the set.
