Ever wonder what you're really celebrating on Cinco de Mayo? Well, it's not Mexico's independence as many believe. The fifth of May actually commemorates the Battle of Puebla, a small victory with big repercussions for Mexico as they slayed the French army and ultimately slowed down its efforts to invade Mexico City. For the first time this epic battle will be making its way to the big screen in Cinco de Mayo: La Batalla and thanks to our friends over at Pantelion we have the exclusive trailer premiere.
Here's the official synopsis:
Cinco de Mayo: La Batalla chronicles the story of Mexico’s Battle of Puebla, the most important battle in Mexico’s history. When the unbeatable French army invades Mexico to set up a monarchy, General Ignacio Zaragoza, played by Kuno Becker, must defend the city of Puebla, commanding a poorly armed and outnumbered troop of men. Meanwhile, two young Mexican lovers manage to find love amidst the chaos of war. Cinco de Mayo chronicles the bravery of a people pushed to the limit, fighting for their nation, their families and their pride.
Directed by Rafa Lara, Cinco de Mayo: La Batalla stars Kuno Becker, Angelica Aragon, William Miller and Liz Gallardo. The film hits theaters in Los Angeles and Orange County on May 3, 2013.
