Listen to 90-Year-Old Christopher Lee Bring the Metal with 'A Heavy Metal Christmas'

Dec 19, 2012

Christopher Lee metal albumChristmas 2012 is all about Christopher Lee apparently – it’s his holiday season, we’re just along for the ride.

The 90-year-old actor, who rose to fame playing Dracula for Hammer Studios, is back on top of the box office as he reprises his role as Saruman in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but that wasn’t enough. Now he’s poised to make your holiday party rock harder than ever before with two heavy metal renditions of your favorite holiday classics.

That’s right, Lee will have you banging your head and tossing up the sign of the beast as he rocks out to "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Silent Night" on his two-track release A Heavy Metal Christmas. Lee’s metal growl is pretty impressive, particularly on "Little Drummer Boy," where we can imagine him making some great black metal if he just went a little more feral and raw, and added some corpse paint. "Silent Night" isn’t quite as good, but it has sort of a creepy vocal vibe that would totally work with a better backing track.

If the idea of Saruman belting out rocking versions of holiday tunes sounds like something you want to find on your iPod this holiday season, you’re in luck – you can procure your very own copy of A Heavy Metal Christmas for $1.98 on iTunes.

Check out clips of the two tracks below. After watching this, we know you’ll agree that Lee would totally slaughter Pat Boone in an “unlikely heavy metal gods battle of the bands” contest.
