Christian Bale and Nicolas Cage are reportedly circling period drama Tesla, Ruler of the World (tentative title), about the famous rivalry between Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla. The story will also feature modern day aspects relating to a "technological crisis." Bleeding Cool reports that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time director Mike Newell has been offered the gig — which he would pick up after completion of Great Expectations — but nothing has been confirmed at this time. Lolita Davidovich (Gods and Monsters) and Rade Serbedzija (Taken 2) were previously announced to star.
The Serbian-American physicist and engineer known as the "wizard of the west' — who championed the distribution of alternating current — worked for fellow inventor Edison (who favored direct current). Tesla felt professionally snubbed after his ideas were shot down, and he wasn't paid as promised. Their tense opposition was often personified as the "War of the Currents," which also describes the friction entrepreneur and engineer George Westinghouse had with Edison. We may be seeing the mogul in the movie as well if the film follows history.
Take it all with a grain of salt for now, but can you see Cage rocking that Tesla stache like nobody's business? There is only one right answer to that question.
