Chris Pratt on 'Ghostbusters' and 'Indiana Jones' Rumors and His Expanded Presence in Marvel Movies

May 20, 2015

Chris Pratt, who starred in two of last year's top-grossing movies (The Lego Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy) and leads one of this summer's most anticipated sequels (Jurassic World), might just be the hottest actor in Hollywood right now. Every studio wants him for their biggest franchises, even if they're not telling him about this desire.

That lack of direct communication is why we're hearing just as many rumors about his potential future roles as actual confirmed gigs. Let's try to sort these projects out with help from a new interview Pratt did with GQ magazine

Is Chris Pratt the new Indiana Jones?

Ever since that wonderful Photoshop of Pratt as Indy popped up online, fans and even Disney and Steven Spielberg have expressed an interest in the former Parks and Recreation regular taking over the fedora and whip from Harrison Ford. But while Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy admits there will be more Indiana Jones at some point, Pratt is not a part of any of these plans. To GQ, he did finally admit that he heard from someone high up at Disney regarding the role, but he told them his action movie card is too full right now.

Has he at least joked with Spielberg about the rumors?

Pratt and Spielberg crossed paths during the making of next month's Jurassic World, as the latter is a producer of the sequel, but surprisingly the Indy thing never came up. "I just didn't bring it up and he didn't bring it up," he told the magazine, "so I don't know."

But he is doing a Ghostbusters movie with Channing Tatum, right?

A couple months ago, reports came out that Sony is interested in expanding the Ghostbusters franchise to include another installment produced and starring Channing Tatum, paired with Pratt. "No one has ever even spoken to me about that," the actor told GQ. "Never. I've even seen Channing a couple times. As far as I know, that's complete bulls**t."

What else is he NOT doing?

"Knight Rider—bulls**t. All of them," he clarified.

Okay, so what IS he doing?

Here are projects he's officially on board for: there's the remake of The Magnificent Seven (which began shooting this month), the true story bootlegger movie The Real McCoy, the crazy-sounding comic book adaptation Cowboy Ninja Viking, a sci-fi flick with Jennifer Lawrence called Passengers and a possible pairing with wife Anna Faris for the comedy Vacation Friends.

Oh, and probably The Lego Movie Sequel (he's said elsewhere that he hopes to return as the voice of Emmett) and definitely a handful of appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Wait, so what other Marvel movies will we see him in?

So far, the only confirmed MCU title for Pratt is Guardians of the Galaxy 2, in which he'll reprise his role as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord. He says writer/director James Gunn is keeping the full plot from him, but what he has been told made him "teary-eyed."

From there, Pratt is contracted for at least a few more MCU movies. "I'm tied to doing three more, or five more," he told GQ. "Two more Guardians plus another couple..." So, that's Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and then presumably Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2.

Okay, one more: is he going to do more Jurassic Park sequels?

That's a possibility, but at the moment there is no greenlight on a fifth installment of the dino franchise. It all depends on how Jurassic Wold does, apparently. We'll know more soon enough, as Pratt can be seen in theaters alongside his trained velociraptors beginning June 12.
