Robo-Thor: Who better than a Norse god to play the lead role in a sci-fi epic from Steven Spielberg? Reportedly, Spielberg wants Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Snow White and the Huntsman) to star in Robopocalypse, his upcoming action flick about a robot uprising against mankind. Spielberg usually gets who he wants, but an offer must still be made, negotiations entered into, and so forth. This would be a major step forward for Hemsworth. Robopocalypse is already set for release on April 25, 2014. [Deadline]

Evil Director: First, Kenneth Branagh signed on to direct the reboot of the Jack Ryan series, in which Chris Pine will step into the role formerly played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. Now, Branagh thinks he’s found the perfect actor to play the villain: himself! Branagh is in negotiations for the role of a Russian mastermind who is trying to bring down the American economy. A New Franchise?: Studios are always on the hunt for possible franchise properties, and Fox thinks it’s found one in Ruin, an eight-minute animated short set in post-apocalyptic North America. Director Wes Ball wants to turn it into a live-action feature, and is attached to helm the project and cowrite the script. McG is also in talks to serve as a producer. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Campaigning for Laughs: A new trailer for upcoming comedy The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zack Galifinakis, has dropped, and offers (mostly) the same footage that’s been seen before. But it’s still funny, and serves as a reminder that the movie is due out on August 10. [First Showing]
