Could the God of Thunder go from a member of the Avengers to a member of the police force? That’s the rumor making the rounds today, as website The Tracking Board reports that Chris Hemsworth has been offered the lead role in a sequel/reboot of the Lethal Weapon franchise.
Joel Silver is set to produce the new film, with Justin Lin attached to direct – and now casting buzz indicates that Hemsworth may join the cast as the “son of an older cop who decides to join the force.” Speculation is that he’d be the son of Mel Gibson’s Martin Riggs, but there’s no official confirmation of that.
Screenwriter Shane Black is reported to have contributed ideas on how to develop the story of the new film, which appears to be more of a “passing of the torch” reboot entry than a remake. Will this help ‘80s action fans come to terms with a new Lethal Weapon where series stalwarts Gibson and Danny Glover would be reduced to supporting characters (or perhaps even cameos)? It’s too soon to say, but Hemsworth is a likable enough actor to potentially make this work.
What say you, readers? Are you up for more Lethal Weapon with Chris Hemsworth taking over the leading role, or are we all too old for this s**t? Have your say below.
