Earlier this month we reported that F. Gary Gary, director of Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious, was in talks to direct a Men in Black spinoff for Sony. Now, we’re getting word that the studio is circling Thor himself to star!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Hemsworth is in early negotiations to lead the untitled MiB spinoff. This will be the fourth film in the sci-fi action-comedy series that has raked in over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office. Without the likes of Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, they’re going to need some serious star power to get this franchise ready for takeoff.

Hemsworth is certainly a household name/face at this point, even if it’s as “one of the Chrises.” When he isn’t portraying the God of Thunder, he usually gravitates to action-oriented or humorous roles. It makes sense that he’s being considered for a film that will draw from both of those strengths. Sony only needs to look back at their spinoff of another sci-fi comedy, Ghostbusters, for proof of his comedic chops.

Sources say the studio is aiming to fill a diverse ensemble cast, including a female of color and an older man. Personally, I’d love to see Hemsworth re-team with Ghostbusters co-star Leslie Jones. The two are big personalities that fight over the audience’s attention when paired onscreen. Just look at their banter during some SNL promos above.

Who would you like to see Hemsworth team up with or face off against in a Men in Black movie? Sony has set a June 14, 2019 release day for the not-yet-titled spinoff.
