Maybe it's just a coincidence, or maybe it's not, but you have to admit it's kinda funny how Tom Hanks is debuting a new film in theaters this weekend (that he directed and stars in) while his son, misunderstood rapper Chet Haze, has also debuted a little somethin' special ... his first ever rap video. Question is, which is better?
As of this writing, Hanks' film, Larry Crowne, isn't fairing too well over at Rotten Tomatoes. At 38% Rotten, most critics just aren't having a good time with the comedy that stars Hanks as a quirky, down-on-his-luck man who starts over by returning to school and befriending his teacher, played by Julia Roberts. Here are some quotes ...
"Soulless Hollywood product doesn't provide a better textbook example than this Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts vehicle." -- Toronto Star
"Larry Crowne" has Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts and a good premise and a colorful supporting cast, but what it doesn't have is a reason for existing." -- Roger Ebert
"It's as if Hanks and co-writer Nia Vardalos assumed that getting everyone in one place would be enough, and didn't think much further." -- AV Club
Yikes. Okay, so what about Chet Haze's music video debut with the song Another Chance? Here are some quotes ...
"It's not so much a rap video as it is semiprofessionally edited concert footage." -- Vulture
"It’s very great. Chet’s meager plans to conquer the rap game begin with the following query: Baby, why you gotta misbehave?" -- Movieline
