Although it aspires to be Cabaret
but ends up closer to Showgirls
, at least Burlesque
is a cut above musical train wrecks like Glitter
—if that is saying much. Christina Aguilera
plays the new girl in town with stardom in her eyes who stumbles upon Burlesque, a glamorous nightclub owned by Cher
—appearing in her first film in seven years—that is packed with dancers and hot dance numbers. Eight of the songs on the soundtrack are performed by Aguilera and two by Cher, including the Golden Globe-winning "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me."
Steve Antin's musical Cinderella story dances home to DVD and Blu-ray on March 1. Both versions contain his commentary, an alternate opening, alternate full musical performances and a blooper reel. Blu-ray exclusives include "Burlesque is Back!," "The Performers: The Cast of Burlesque," "Setting the Stage: Production Designer and Performers," "Inside the Dressing Room: Creating the Burlesque Look" and "The Set List: The Music and Choreography of Burlesque."
