Monkey Brain cake

Cakes have gotten pretty elaborate over the past few years, as anyone who watches Cake Boss can attest. I’ve always wondered how I’d feel if someone brought me a really elaborate movie-based cake – because there’s a part of me that always thinks “that’s so awesome – we can’t possibly eat it!” I suspect this would be my reaction if anyone ever gifted me with today’s culinary delight – a monkey cake inspired by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (and probably not Faces of Death, but that would work as well).

Remember when Indy goes for dinner and they have some delicious chilled monkey brains (served in the handy take-home souvenir container of the monkey’s skull, no less) for dessert? Well, now you can re-create that magical moment for your next big get together with this step-by-step guide from Inscrutable user BubbleandSweet. Just set aside like three days to bring it all together.

Personally, I have a hard time boiling water or cooking eggs, so this is way beyond my culinary skill level, but thanks to the instruction in the tutorial, I suspect a lot of Halloween parties next month might have a chocolate-cake monkey skull with chilled Jell-o brains on top as the centerpiece of the festive buffet.

Check out some of the pics below. I really hope the little girl in the photo is who wanted this cake for her party, because that would be all kinds of awesome.
