Check Out These Amazing Portraits That Pay Tribute to Tim Burton's Movies

Nov 05, 2014

Pop artist Sam Carter — who was fed a steady diet of the Smurfs, Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, He-Man, Transformers and Star Wars as a child — created a series of Tim Burton-inspired portraits that pay homage to the quirky director’s fantastical filmography. Each image features a silhouette of the film’s main character, with illustrations of the narrative decorating the inside.

The modernist Beetlejuice abode, Edward Scissorhands’ snow angel, and the spiral-y cliff from Nightmare Before Christmas are fun, instantly recognizable references to Burton’s classic films. Gallery Popzilla exhibited the artworks in its recent Burton show, but you can buy your own Burton online.

And speaking of the filmmaker, Burton’s biopic Big Eyes about pop surrealist grandmother Margaret Keane hits theaters on Christmas Day.
