If you're a Star Wars purist, chances are that you're more than a little annoyed that the forthcoming Blu-ray set will not actually contain the original, theatrical versions of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Earlier today, Erik Davis shared what exactly these HD packages will include (the short of it is that there will be three retail packages available - the prequels, the original trilogy, and the entire saga all in one - with a cumulative 40+ hours of special features spread between all of the discs), and now Fox has released our first official look at the cover art for the various sets. And damned if the art isn't a sight for sore eyes.
As much as it frustrates me that George Lucas refuses to preserve the sanctity of the original trilogy, a demand that all Star Wars fans would love to see fulfilled; as much as I'd love to flat out boycott these Blu-rays because of it, I just can't bring myself to do so. Oh, I may not want to watch the actual special edition versions of the movies, but I really do want to dive into those special features. And I just love the cover art here. It's not some slapped together Photoshop job. It's, well, art. That's surprisingly uncommon on retail packages these days.
