Crazy 'Cheap Thrills' Promo Lets You Torture Ethan Embry and Pat Healy

Feb 21, 2014

Cheap Thrills is a brilliant dark comedy about the extreme lengths people will go to earn a buck. So naturally, the filmmakers are now going to extreme lengths to promote the movie so they can earn a buck. It's life imitating art!

Stars Pat Healy and Ethan Embry, along with producer Travis Stevens and Drafthouse Films CEO Tim League, have each thrown their hat into the ring for a simple system called Share the Dare. Basically, a series of challenges have been devised and the more people share the movie on Twitter, Facebook, etc., the more dares will be unlocked. They start off innocent, with the first dare being to re-create Burt Reynolds' famous nude bearskin rug photo, and get a tad more ridiculous from there. So, if you've ever wanted to make Ethan Embry try to score dates on OKCupid (as a Brony), or force the owner of the Alamo Drafthouse to drink beer until he pees his pants, now's your chance.

As for the actual movie, Cheap Thrills is the real deal. Drafthouse Films may be putting together this fun game to promote the movie, but that's more a reflection of what it takes to make an independent film stand out in the marketplace these days than anything else. Evan Katz' film is certainly strong enough to stand on its own two feet, but unfortunately we're in an age when word of mouth has to get way more creative than simply "Hey, have you seen Cheap Thrills yet? You should totally go rent it."

But, hey, have you seen Cheap Thrills yet? You should totally go rent it. It is on cable On Demand today, after all. So you can indeed go do just that.
