Hey, look everybody, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is back in the news with a brand new trailer!
As you might recall, Paramount pulled the film from its summer 2012 release schedule, just over a month before it was set to debut, so it could go back and make the film 3D and add more scenes with newly minted A-list star Channing Tatum. That necessitated pushing the film’s launch all way back to March 2013. With that date now looming on the horizon, we’ve got this new clip.
The trailer features more Tatum, lots of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, a couple of not particularly funny one-liners, a dreadful-sounding Lupe Fiasco song, and Bruce Willis doing his best John McClane impersonation outside of a Die Hard film (minus a "yippie-ki-yay"). Oh, and it’s got ninjas fighting on a mountainside and an American president played by Jonathan Pryce blowing up what I assume is London, which almost balances it all out.
Snark aside, the new clip looks exactly like what you’d expect from a G.I. Joe sequel – and I’m totally going to see it even though I just made fun of it. At the very least, we suspect the big action sequences will make us forget a lot of the other potential issues – and we like Tatum, Willis and the Rock.
Check out the clip below and let us know what you think. Was the wait worth it or is this film going to struggle even in a wide open March where blockbuster competition is all but nonexistent?
