'The Hunger Games' Sequel 'Catching Fire' Confirms Writer and Director

Jan 17, 2012

Now that Lionsgate has acquired Summit Entertainment, the former has officially become a powerhouse with both the Twilight franchise and The Hunger Games among their big-screen properties. Lionsgate has already made it clear that they plan to continue the Twilight franchise in some form after Breaking Dawn, Part 2 hits theaters, and while the first Hunger Games doesn't hit theaters until March 23rd, the sequel is already on the fast track. The Wrap confirms that Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) is writing the script for Catching Fire, the second book in the Hunger Games series, with Gary Ross signed on to direct another installment, meaning the studio must be happy with what he's done with the first.

Catching Fire (or will it be called The Hunger Games Saga: Catching Fire?) is already scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 22nd, 2013, fully prepared to dominate the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday. As of now, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth are all expected to return for the sequel.
