Scientists have proven that Wednesdays are always better with casting news. Lucky for you, we’ve got lots of it today. Read on for full details.
-- Star Amy Adams will work both in front of and behind the camera on the upcoming Object of Beauty, an adaptation of comedian Steve Martin’s novel.
The actress will not only star in the feature, which follows an art entrepreneur for nearly two decades as she advances in her career and personal life, but she’ll also produce.
Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray will also be producing through Maven Pictures, and they’re delighted to have Adams onboard. “We couldn’t be happier to be working with the brilliant Amy Adams on this adaptation of Steve Martin’s smart novel,” says Rattray. Maven is looking to make films with strong female characters and stories – and Object of Beauty sounds like it fits the bill perfectly. [via THR]
-- Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are set to reunite in the upcoming Interns for 20th Century Fox. The Wedding Crashers duo will play a pair of 40-somethings who find themselves unemployed when their company downsizes them. Convinced the road to success requires them starting at the bottom again, Vaughn and Wilson land gigs as interns at a Google-esque tech company – where they soon find themselves competing against much younger employees for opportunities to move up the corporate ladder.
The film, which is being helmed by Neighborhood Watch producer Shawn Levy, came about through a series of unfortunate events. Vaughn was set to work on a comedy titled The Insane Laws, but it fell apart over budgetary concerns (the rumor is that Vaughn wouldn’t work for less than his standard fee), and Fox balked at giving Levy $80 million for a Frankenstein remake (which seems pretty smart). With Wilson also available, Fox jumped on the script and will presumably begin shooting sometime this year. Can Vaughn and Wilson recreate the magic of Wedding Crashers? Fox is banking on it. -- When Mark Wahlberg gets done theorizing about how he could have saved the world from whatever its most recent calamity is, maybe he can figure out a way to not get completely upstaged by his potential new co-star in Universal’s adaptation of the graphic novel 2 Guns.
Sources report that Denzel Washington is currently in negotiations to join the film, which follows an undercover Naval Intelligence officer and a DEA agent who are investigating each other as each steals money from the mafia.
Sounds like an interesting part for Washington, who’s proven he can play these kinds of roles in films like Training Day. Still, we’d really like to see Denzel tackle some meatier material just to change things up.
Should Washington join the team, he’ll not only work with Wahlberg, but also director Baltasar Kormakur – whose film Contraband was just remade, starring none other than Mark Wahlberg. Funny how that works, isn’t it? [via Deadline]
