Casting: Steve Carell Joins the Mob, Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck's Gambling Problem & Nancy Meyers Wants Tina Fey

Ceremony director Max Winkler — who is indeed the son of Henry Winkler, and will co-write/executive produce the Jonah Hill-starring comedy, The Adventurer's Handbook — will be working on an "untitled mob comedy," according to Deadline. Winker will direct Steve Carell and New Girl's Jake Johnson in the film that is also being produced by Carell. The pitch comes from Winkler and Johnson. Ceremony has been described as a " pleased-with-itself indie," and "unwatchable" (that comes from some of the Deadline commenters in reaction to this news). Will a film with this kind of comedic talent fare any better?

— The Lincoln Lawyer's Brad Furman will be directing pop star and should-be SNL cast member Justin Timberlake in Runner Runner with Ben Affleck. Vulture reports that the film is set in the world of offshore online gambling — which the website jokes Affleck may be all too familiar with, considering a recent story in which the star lost $400,000 big ones on a poker hand. We'll be seeing this one for Timberlake who we hope breaks out of debt by getting back into the motherlover business.

— Paramount wants to finance a Nancy Meyers-directed script starring Tina Fey. Deadline shares that the 30 Rock star will play the founder of a fashion-focused e-business who suddenly finds herself with a bevy of senior citizen interns. "The title character, an over-70 widower who is bored with retirement from a middle management career, initially seems like a fossil to his working mother boss, but grows more indispensable." Eventually the two develop a strong bond. Meyers has an actor in mind for the elderly role, but won't reveal who the star is at this time. The director worked with Jack Nicholson on Something's Gotta Give, so the Departed star could be a potential here. We'd rather see Fey's depth and genuinely funny subversive style be put to better use and not with a director that makes movies no one can really relate to (minus the 1%) and Fey would probably be cracking on if she had the perfect opportunity.
