There was lots of big casting news over the weekend. Here’s what you might have missed.
Bond 23 continues to round out its cast – and IndieWire says the latest addition to the next installment is none other than popular character actor Rhys Ifans. Ifans, who’s started to turn up in a lot of big projects as of late (including Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot), will join Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes and (presumably) Naomie Harris in the super-spy’s latest outing. Sam Mendes will direct the film, which is set to begin shooting this fall in preparation for a November 2012 release date. No word yet on who Ifans will play, but we’ll keep you posted as more details come to light. At any rate, we like the way the cast for Bond 23 is shaping up so far.
Sean Bean has made quite a name for himself over the past few years by appearing in medieval dramas – and he looks to continue the trend, sort of, with his next project. The actor is in final negotiations to play the king in Relativity’s upcoming live action Snow White film.
Bean is probably now best known to audiences for his recent work on HBO’s Game of Thrones series, but he’s also donned the chainmail as Boromir in the Lord of the Rings films and as a Templar knight out to kill a necromancer in Christopher Smith’s under seen Black Death.
This new Snow White project is still looking for a title, but the cast is rounding out. Bean will join Lily Collins (who plays Snow White) and Armie Hammer and Julia Roberts in the Tarsem Singh-directed feature. Variety reports that the project is aiming for a March 16th release, allowing it to open two months ahead of Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman.
Not too long ago, we brought you news about a Hollywood adaptation of Lee Child’s novel One Shot. At the time, speculation was that Tom Cruise would play the role of main (and recurring) character Jack Reacher in the big screen version – and now Deadline confirms that the actor has indeed been locked in for the part.
Fans of the novels have been concerned about the potential casting of Cruise – who’s lucky if he’s 5’8” tall – in the part of the massive Jack Reacher. However, author Lee Child supported the idea when the news first broke, so it seems like the fans are going to have to be understanding if this project has any shot at working.
In typical fashion, One Shot finds Reacher involved in a case that isn’t nearly as simple as it appears. When a sniper is caught after killing five people, the former military man discovers that not everything in the case is so cut and dry. Cruise will reunite with frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie on the project, which will begin shooting in Pittsburgh early this fall.
