Like it or not, we’re getting a remake of Tobe Hooper’s classic haunted house flick Poltergeist – and the Gil Kenan-directed film has added a whole lot of cast members in the past few days. We already knew that Rosemarie DeWitt and Sam Rockwell will be playing the leads, but now the supporting cast is starting to fill out, and the characters give us a hint at how Kenan’s film might differ slightly from Hooper and Spielberg’s original.
Jared Harris has landed the role that tells us the most – he’ll be playing a man named Carrigan who’s “a larger than life TV personality who left the world of academia behind to become the star host of basic cable TV show Haunted House Cleaners.” There was no such character in the original film but perhaps this is the update’s take on Zelda Rubinstein’s classic role, just flipping the gender and modernizing it to reflect our fascination with paranormal-investigation reality series.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower’s Nicholas Braun is also in negotiations to join the cast. Should he sign on the dotted line, he’ll be playing a grad student who connects the family with Carrigan once all the supernatural shenanigans inside the house turn menacing.
Finally, it’s also been revealed that Kyle Catlett will play the family’s middle child.
All in all, these casting updates give us hope. Rockwell has gone on record saying that this version will be different than Hooper's – which theoretically would make it easier for fans to swallow. What do you guys think? Is Rockwell ready to be Craig T. Nelson? Do you have any interest in an updated Poltergeist? Share your thoughts with us below.
