Casting News: 'Point Break' Remake Nabs Its Keanu Reeves, 'Ted 2' Finds a New Female Lead, and More

French high-wire artist Philippe Petit became famous for his incredible 1974 high-wire stunt, which found the athletic daredevil walking between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. For 45 minutes, Petit walked back and forth across the wire eight times. The aerial feat was captured in the 2008 documentary Man on Wire, which we highly recommed. Or, you could just wait to watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt play Petit in the upcoming movie To Walk the Clouds, to be directed by none other than Robert Zemeckis. Deadline reports:

Production will begin in May on this 3D experiential film that will be done with the spectacle of Avatar, Life of Pi and Gravity, with a fun daring subplot that makes the film one part Ocean’s Eleven as Petit and his cohorts snuck to the top of the towers and managed to shoot a line across and get the rigging ready in time for Petit to shock the world in what is also a love letter to the Twin Towers and a simpler time gone by.

What other movies can they pack into that teaser? We'll take it, though. Petit was accused of trespassing, as his stunt was performed without permission from the city, but all charges were dropped. The new film takes its title from Petit’s memoir. Levitt, who seems right, at least physically, for the part, will start shooting the film in May.

Point Break fans: meet your new Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves’ character in the 1991 surf film). Luke Bracey, who has appeared in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Monte Carlo, will take on the role of the rookie FBI agent who goes undercover as a surfer, investigating a string of robberies by crooks who wear the creepy masks of ex-presidents during their raids. Ericson Core (Invincible) will direct the remake, which also stars Gerard Butler in the role previously played by Patrick Swayze — Bodhi, the charismatic leader of the surfing crooks.

The original film was directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who orchestrated a series of gripping action sequences and gave the surf gang a philosophical edge. The remake will focus on a similiar meditation on masculinity, this time set in the world of international extreme sports.

Prepare for more foul-mouthed children’s toys. In the Ted sequel, starring Mark Wahlberg again as the man with the talking teddy, Amanda Seyfried will take on the female lead. The details for part two aren’t set just yet, but Mila Kunis will either appear briefly or not at all, says Deadline. The 2012 film was a box office hit and became the 12th highest grossing film of the year, the highest grossing R-rated film of the year, and the highest grossing original R-rated comedy of all time. Will Seyfried capture Ted’s ire or affection?
