Video Dialogue: Katie Aselton, Lake Bell and Kate Bosworth on Getting Down and Dirty in 'Black Rock'

Jan 24, 2012

One of the more successful midnight films at this year's Sundance Film Festival so far has been Katie Aselton's Black Rock. Within hours of its Saturday night midnight premiere (amidst a raging blizzard) the film sold to a new company called LD Entertainment, and it represents the latest in a series of female-driven films at this year's festival that are just snatching up the buzz one after another.

Directed by Katie Aselton (and written by her husband Mark Duplass off a story from Aselton), Black Rock stars Aselton, Lake Bell and Kate Bosworth as three friends who venture to a secluded island for a couple of days to go camping and reconnect with their childhood while searching for a time capsule they buried there when they were ten. Problems arise, however, when three former soldiers who were just recently dishonorably discharged from the military pop up during a hunting trip through the same isolated area. One thing leads to another, and what starts out as a friendly campfire hang-out soon turns deadly, with all three girls fleeing for their lives as the soldiers look to hunt a few humans instead of deer.

We caught up with Aselton, Bell and Bosworth to talk about Black Rock and the difficulties of shooting outside in real nasty conditions, which forced at least one cast member into the hospital. Check it out below. Expect Black Rock to hit theaters (and presumably VOD) later this year.

Note: Apologies for the slight shake in our cam as we forgot our tripod back at the hotel.
