In a tweet heard around the internet, Billy Crystal officially announced his new Oscar hosting gig by joking, "Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show." Logically, this sent folks scrambling -- to get a hold of Crystal's publicist, the Academy, anyone really -- to confirm whether or not Crystal was just joking. Apparently that doesn't seem to be the case.
Multiple sources are claiming that, yes, Billy Crystal will replace Eddie Murphy as host of the 84th Academy Awards, unfortunately silencing fan campaigns to get The Muppets to host, but also bringing a nice sigh of relief to the entire entertainment industry. Crystal is a fantastic entertainer who's hosted the Oscars many times before. He knows how to work a crowd, he knows how to perform, he knows how to tell a good joke, and everyone loves him. We don't think you could do any better than a seasoned pro like Crystal, and we certainly look forward to seeing him take Hollywood's biggest stage yet again.
Just let him do one dance number with the Muppets. That's all we ask.
