Big Hero 6 Baymax

When Disney acquired Marvel Studios in a megadeal a few years back, comic nerds got really excited at the prospects of Disney Animation (and maybe even Pixar) making cartoon movies based on their favorite superhero properties. Unfortunately that hasn’t really happened – but things are set to change with the release of Big Hero 6 next month.

Okay, so it’s not the animated Avengers movie we all wanted, but the story of a boy who weaponizes his health bot is still shaping up nicely judging by this new clip. In it, we get to meet Baymax, a bumbling, but well-meaning robot who is charged with monitoring his young owner’s health. As anyone who’s dealt with a teenager can attest, this is easier said than done. Baymax does his best, though – and the results are utterly charming.

The clip doesn’t spoil much of anything about the film, so it’s safe to watch just so you can get a feel for what Disney and Marvel have in store for us when Big Hero 6 opens this November. Check out the plot synopsis below:

Big Hero 6 is a heartfelt comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, clean freak Wasabi No-Ginger, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a cutting-edge robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Big Hero 6 is directed by Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and Chris Williams (Bolt), and produced by Roy Conli (Tangled).”

If that’s not enough of a sneak peek for you, this October you can catch an extended preview of both Big Hero 6 and Disney’s Tomorrowland at New York Comic-Con. The House of Mouse will be showing off new footage from each feature at the annual convention on October 9.

Tomorrowland finds director Brad Bird teaming up with Lost writer Damon Lindelof and George Clooney to craft a tale about “a jaded scientist and an optimistic teen embarking on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space.”
