Chemical engineering student Emil Johansson happens to be a huge J.R.R. Tolkien geek. He previously created a Lord of the Rings family tree, a Middle-earth problem-solving chart, and a timeline of the One Ring. His latest project involves something that hits a little bit closer to home: a period table of Middle-earth.
Johansson categorized 114 Tolkien characters (from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit) and assigned them a number, symbol, birth and death dates, and other pertinent info. It's a beautifully designed chart, which you can also purchase before the next installment of The Hobbit hits theaters in December. We'd also like to point out how Elven Johansson looks. Pay attention Peter Jackson, and cast him in something ASAP.
While you're waiting for the film (or your new poster) to arrive, check out this excerpt from a live event that Peter Jackson did, answering questions about the upcoming Desolation of Smaug. Try to compose yourself when Stephen Colbert pops up and nerds out completely. [via Neatorama]
