Welcome back to Best Movie Trailers of the Week, a column where we handpick the best new movie trailers that have arrived online over the past week.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Where to begin with this one? Perhaps it’s unfortunate for Marvel that the Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser trailer leaked prematurely, but look at this thing: it's marvelous. This teaser gives the impression that Avengers: Age of Ultron could make for one heck of a conclusion to its second phase of superhero movies. It’s rather dark, courtesy of Ultron’s very palpable threat, but that doesn’t mean it’s desperately reaching for that all-too-familiar über-gritty tenor. Ultron’s speech is malicious, and that rendition of “I’ve Got No Strings” has an eerie horrorlike quality to it, but the colors are as bright as ever and that pairing actually makes for a more exhilarating watch.

Plus, those music cues are just spot-on. You want to see what a stellar music choice can do for some visuals? Skip to the 1:40 mark and watch the Hulk smash into the Hulkbuster without the music. It still looks good, but you’re just watching it without the music whereas you can practically feel it the other way.

Happy Valley

You can get a lot of information by tracking a story in the news, but not even the most detailed report can match the tension and depth exhibited by this trailer for Amir Bar-Lev’s Penn State-scandal documentary Happy Valley. It doesn’t matter whether you know absolutely nothing about what happened to the school’s legendary football program or if you monitored it closely as it unfolded back in 2011; this piece delivers all the basics in a highly digestible, engaging manner and then takes it one step further by giving you the impression that you’re getting unprecedented access to what happened.

Starry Eyes

Why bother with dialogue when your film’s got more than enough unforgettable imagery to really freak a viewer out even before catching the full feature? And even more impressive: this trailer for Starry Eyes doesn’t just lean on its gross-out visuals -- it actually manages to tease the story using the quick-cutting montage format, enhancing the imagery by setting it to a relentlessly unnerving pace. Just so you’re covered after this trailer sells you on the film, Starry Eyes hits select theaters and VOD on November 14.

The Gambler

I don't yet have a grasp of what The Gambler will offer up storywise the first time around, but its beat is so infectious you immediately want to go back for seconds. Between that cast and the piece’s bold style, it’s nearly impossible to walk away without an interest in experiencing more of what Mark Wahlberg’s character is going through.

Insidious: Chapter 3

You win, Insidious: Chapter 3 teaser trailer. You made me jump. Big time. And how about that new rendition of Tiny Tim’s “Tiptoe Through the Tulips?” That song is forever changed thanks to the first Insidious, but using it and abusing it ultimately would have killed the effect. What we’ve got here, however, is a fresh and catchy spin on the tune, and it comes with the added fun of being deeply connected to the original.
