The Best Movie-Related Toy at Comic-Con is an ongoing series profiling some of the nerdiest movie-related toys on display at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. When all is said and done we'll present all our nominations and ask you to vote for your favorite.
There's nothing really like walking around the convention floor at San Diego Comic-Con. If you've never been, imagine a massive space full of the coolest, geekiest toys, statues, comics, video games and trinkets. Now add thousands of people. Now put ridiculous costumes on most of them. Now add groups of people chasing each costume with cameras. Now add a funky smell that's sort of a mix between body odor and mustard.
Welcome to San Diego Comic-Con. Enjoy your stay!
Alright, it's not all roses and rainbows, but it's ridiculously fulfilling for so many people. A place to truly get your nerd on among people who all share a similar passion. We wouldn't miss it for the world. And while we're there, we'll be obsessing over the various movie-related toys that are new to Comic-Con this year, like this Hot Toys exclusive of Christopher Reeve as Evil Superman in Superman III.
Remember Evil Superman? As a kid who grew up with the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, this nasty, boozed-up version of Superman was scarier than General Zod and Lex Luthor combined. After all, what's more frightening than Superman becoming the bad guy? Who do we turn to when Superman (and his scruffy five o'clock shadow) is the one wreaking havoc on us?
As our own Evan Saathoff said in his defense of Superman III, "... watching a disheveled Reeve grumble and grimace like a cop with a bad hangover is a joy I'd never want to live without. For this alone, Superman III is worth having around. It gives us a new, surprisingly raw side to the character, and makes perhaps the best argument of all for Christopher Reeve's talent as an actor."
For those reasons and more, Evil Superman is probably the best (most complex) villain we've seen in a Superman movie to date. This version of the Man of Steel is incredibly underrated, and so it's why we're nominating Hot Toys' Superman (Evil Version) collectible figure as the best movie-related toy at Comic-Con.
Expect more nominations to come over the course of the next week and a half, and once Comic-Con is over we'll officially crown one toy with the honor of being the best movie-related Toy at Comic-Con!
If you have a toy you'd like to nominate, drop it in the comments section and we'll take a look.
