Benedict Cumberbatch is a thing now. He's been a good actor for quite a while, obviously, but at some point in the last year or so the spinning wheel of pop culture, for whatever reason, decided to land on him, and now he's gone from good actor to an inexplicable fan sensation. And we don't mean that as a knock on Cumberbatch. Judging from all of his interviews, he seems to be more astounded than anyone that he's become a jewel on the Internet.
Take, for example, Cumberbatch's recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The women in the crowd roar for the man, much to his own surprise. And of course Jimmy Kimmel isn't deaf to their delight, so he set up something that would work them all into a lather: Benedict Cumberbatch reading the lyrics to R. Kelly's "Genius," off of his forthcoming album Black Panties. Yep, that sounds exactly like something ready to go viral all over the Web.
Before we get to that hilarious bit, though, there's also plenty of gems to be gleamed from the actual interview portion of the show. Our favorite bit is his reaction to J.J. Abrams' recent bout of PR where he said he kind of wishes that they hadn't hid Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness from audiences. Considering Cumberbatch was the one who had to do the majority of the lying on that one, it's great to see him tease Abrams about it all. That funny bit is in the second part below.
