Movie News: Ben Mendelsohn Touted for 'Star Wars' Spinoff 'Rogue One'; Another 'Lego Movie' Spinoff Coming

Rogue One: Veteran Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn (Exodus: Gods and Kings, TV's Bloodline) is said to be "circling" a starring role in Rogue One, the first Star Wars spinoff movie. Felicity Jones is set to star, with Gareth Edwards in the director's chair and Chris Weitz currently writing a new draft of the screenplay. Production is expected to begin this summer; it's scheduled for release on December 16, 2016. [Deadline]

The Billion Brick Race: Because there can never be too many Lego movies, Jason Segel (The Muppet Movie) and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) will write and direct The Billion Brick Race, a spinoff of The Lego Movie. The project is in the early stages of development; it joins three other Lego-related movies that are in the works: Ninjago in 2016, The Lego Batman Movie in 2017, and The Lego Movie 2 in 2018. Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades Darker: Director Sam Taylor-Johnson (above with Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson), who guided Fifty Shades of Grey to tremendous popular success at the box office worldwide, will not return for the sequel, Fifty Shades Darker. Taylor-Johnson did not cite a reason for her exit. An official release date has not yet been scheduled; Dornan and Johnson will return, however. [Deadline]
