"I'm a big boy, I can handle anything," Ben Affleck exclaimed while on Jimmy Fallon's show last night. The actor was of course referencing the intense, divisive reaction to the news that he'd be playing Batman in the Man of Steel sequel (unofficially called Batman vs. Superman), due out in the summer of 2015. "They said just don't use the Internet for a couple of days.... I handle s**t. I'm very tough. I saw the announcement, I look down on the first comment... the first one just goes, 'Nooooooooo!'"
Affleck admits they're doing "something different" from what Christian Bale did with his Batman movies, adding "it's a brilliant way of doing it," and that he "knew how to hook" into it, which is why he decided to take on the role. "I have a lot of opportunities now, and this is really exciting," Affleck tacked on at the end.
Previously we've learned that Affleck's Batman will be "tired, weary and seasoned," the kind of guy who's been Batman for awhile and knows how to play the part, but we gather the experiences of being the Caped Crusader may be catching up to him. Due out on July 17, 2015, we're still waiting for the big villain to be announced, be it Lex Luthor, someone else or multiple baddies. Meanwhile, Affleck seems passionate about the material and the story they've come up with, and when the guy who just won a Best Picture Oscar feels that confident, you have to go with it. You have to trust the man.
