Robert Pattinson has three films already waiting in the wings to release in 2012, and of the non-Twilight ones, we're guessing that Pattinson's normal fanbase is going to find themselves swooning for Bel Ami over David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis. We've already gotten a glimpse of the insanity in store for the latter (and we're thrilled it may turn some Twihards onto the challenging and dark joys of a Cronenberg film), and now we get to see what the former has in store.
By the looks of the first trailer for the Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod-directed film, Bel Ami has all the dapper, sweeping romance you'd desire from a period piece about a man hopping between the beds of Christina Ricci and Uma Thurman in 1890's Paris. Or, as the official synopsis puts it,
BEL AMI is the story of Georges Duroy, who travels through 1890s Paris, from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute's embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession.
So what say you, Pattinson lovers? Does Bel Ami look like everything you'd hoped for? Are you ready for a double dose of post-Twilight Pattinson where he plays womanizing characters? Honestly, on this end, we can't wait to see how both Bel Ami and Cosmopolis pan out.
