'Battleship' Trailer Makes a Big, Fun CGI Splash

Jul 27, 2011

Last night Twitter was abuzz with reactions to the first trailer for the Peter Berg-directed Battleship thanks to the trailer being attached to many press and promo screenings of this weekend's Cowboys & Aliens.  Sadly, people seemed to have a stronger reaction to Berg's Navy vs. Aliens film than they did Favreau's mashup.  And now, thanks to Yahoo, you too can see what all the fuss is about.

The trailer starts like an ocean-themed Friday Night Lights episode and ends like a game of water polo between Transformers, which is probably going to have plenty of people rolling their eyes, but you know what?  What else is a movie based on a board game where all you do is try to guess coordinates faster than your opponent supposed to do?  Aside from not existing (that would be a good start), I'm happy to see Peter Berg making a high concept tentpole that doesn't make a lick of sense and doesn't seem to care one bit that it doesn't make a lick of sense.
