The Batman and Superman Movie May Be Called 'Batman vs. Superman'

Jul 23, 2013

The newly announced movie uniting Superman and Batman on the big screen for the first time might have a title. That's good, because continuing to refer to it as just "the Superman/Batman movie" was going to get old really quick. While there is no official certainty, screenwriter David S. Goyer claims the film will be called either one of two like-minded possibilities implying a battle of DC's most iconic heroes. got the scoop via a Comic-Con panel on the anniversary of Superman, which Goyer sat on. The site quotes him as saying: "We’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman, but yes, it’s that rematch, that combination, the two guys on-screen and that’s happening."

So it's not going to be about Batman and Superman becoming buddies, then? Actually, if we know anything from comic book battles between heroes, it's that the storyline begins with the characters fighting and then winds up with them banding together to fight a common enemy. Let's assume that this movie will follow the events of Man of Steel and Batman goes after Superman because of all the damage he's caused in Metropolis (not that I can believe anyone would challenge the indestructible alien creature after seeing what he'd done in that movie), and then they team up to fight Lex Luthor or someone major. This would fit with the premise I'd previously heard for the fast-tracked Man of Steel 2, which was to have Luthor's introduction be related to the Metropolis reconstruction.

As for the choice of which of the two variations to go with, Slashfilm did some detective work and concluded that it's more likely Batman vs. Superman based on website domain names recently registered by Warner Bros.: "It seems they own both and as well as They don’t, however, own" This would also sound better if the concept centers on Batman throwing the first punches.

Those of you die-hard fans of DC Comics might have a better notion of what might cause such a fight between these characters and what villians they might share in such a way that they'd settle differences in order to fight him/her/it together.
