Could DC be ready to follow in Marvel’s footsteps with its upcoming Batman vs. Superman project? If this new casting rumor pans out, it would seem that way.
There’s an air of secrecy surrounding Zack Snyder’s new film – one that extends from the plot all the way down to the characters. We had no idea Ben Affleck was in the running for Batman, and now rumors are flying that an unspecified female role is actually going to provide the introduction of Wonder Woman before launching her as a major player in an upcoming Justice League film. Sort of like how Marvel revealed Avengers characters in earlier movies (Black Widow in Iron Man 2, Hawkeye in Thor, etc.)
Casting agents received the call this week for female actresses who are physically strong and appear to be between the ages of 25 and 33. That’s pretty much the only description they gave, but that hasn’t stopped agents from assuming the character is everyone’s favorite invisible plane-flying Amazonian.
Warners hasn’t confirmed this bit of news, but as Bleeding Cool points out, the studio mouthpieces haven’t denied it either. Seems plausible based on that vague description – but really, that could describe like a million possible characters not named Wonder Woman, too. Guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all pans out.
Speaking of waiting and seeing, it turns out we might know some things about the film sooner than expected. While Batman vs. Superman was only announced back at the end of July, it’s actually moving along at a good clip according to writer David Goyer.
“One of the things that has been fun for us, is we’re a bit a further along than what I think people realize.”
Naturally Goyer doesn’t elaborate on what that means, but we can assume that the script and story are probably pretty close to locked in at this point. This means all those fan suggestions are essentially pointless now.
