Dark Knight Legacy Red Hood

Christopher Nolan pretty much ended his involvement with the Batman franchise with last summer’s release of The Dark Knight Rises, but that hasn’t stopped some industrious fans trying to continue the story of Nolan’s Gotham City in a new film.

Director Brett Register has crafted his own continuation of the series with The Dark Knight Legacy – a seven-minute short film that he hopes will be the first installment in a much larger series. In it, Batman is gone – presumed dead – and John Blake has taken up the mantle of Gotham protector as Nightwing. When a new villain named the Red Hood slaughters Gotham’s gang bosses (including the Penguin), it’s up to Nightwing to figure out why and stop Gotham’s various crime factions from destroying the city in a war to regain power.

All in all, it’s a pretty entertaining short. I doubt anyone will be championing it as a genuine continuation of what Nolan started, but Register is not without talent. Some of the acting is pretty dicey, but the look and tone work – for the most part.

Check out The Dark Knight Legacy below. If you like what you see and want to see more, then swing by the project’s IndieGoGo page and contribute a few dollars toward getting future installments funded.
