"We're not remaking Psycho. We're using it as an inspiration," Bates Motel star Vera Farmiga reassures us in the first trailer for the prequel Hitchcock story. Set in a contemporary world, A&E's film-inspired tale shows us what a high school-era Norman Bates was like, and reveals more about the strange relationship he had with his mother. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's Freddie Highmore plays the troubled Norman for the dark family drama executive produced by Lost's Carlton Cuse.
This clip features interviews with the cast and crew, and has a strong, gloomy Pacific Northwest vibe (Psycho was set in California). Take a peek at the trailer below, and let us know if you're feeling the same Lynchian small-town creep factor mixed in with a little American Horror Story. We hope Bates Motel and other film-centric adaptations like Hannibal can live up to movie-nerd expectations. [via Blastr]
