There's been a lot of talk around Bane's voice in
The Dark Knight Rises — mainly centering on how difficult it has been to understand the villainous strongman.
The Hollywood Reporter has uncovered a possible explanation for that. They spoke to actor
Tom Hardy during the press rounds for Christopher Nolan's third
Batman movie and found out that Bane's voice was inspired by an Irish Traveller named Bartley Gorman who was an undefeated bare-knuckle boxing champ known as the "King of the Gypsies." Hardy told reporters:
"I wanted to underpin the Latin, but a Romani Latin opposed to Latino. His particular accent is very specific, which was a gypsy accent. So that's why it was difficult to understand. But once you tune into it, you get it. I hope."
The star also discusses what it was like wearing Bane's military-inspired costume and reveals that he wasn't aware Nolan was keeping a close eye on him to cast him as the supervillain during the filming of the mind-bending actioner Inception. Check out more Bane goodness in the video below.
