There’s nothing quite like seeing a feature film in IMAX – the size and spectacle of the presentation has changed the way we watch movies in much the same way high-def televisions changed how we view our favorite shows.
What’s every bit as impressive as the IMAX experience is this cool new time-lapse video showing how a traditional theater (in this case, the historic TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood) is transformed into the world’s largest IMAX location. It’s got all the excitement of watching something change, but without hours of sitting around seeing construction workers do their thing!
The newly renovated theater will hold an astounding 932 people, which is more than any other IMAX location around the globe. The screen itself is a massive 90 by 46 feet, which only makes it the third largest on the planet. Still, that’s probably the biggest screen you’ll ever watch a movie on…
The TCL Chinese Theater is set to reopen on September 20, just in time to host a special IMAX screening of The Wizard of Oz. If you’re in the Hollywood area, I’d start trying to score tickets now.
