Check Out This Awesome First Look at 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'

Jul 16, 2014

As you no doubt see above, Entertainment Weekly has dropped down its massive Comic-Con preview issue with a first look at Avengers: Age of Ultron on its cover, featuring Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans) and the sequel's main baddie, Ultron, voiced by James Spader.

The initial cover article reveals the primary setup for the Avengers follow-up (due out on May 1, 2015), which looks to find Tony Stark kinda screwing everything up when he attempts to devise a plan to make it so none of his superhero friends need to fight anymore. Unfortunately for them, that "plan" turns into Ultron, a self-aware artificial intelligence that thinks the planet would be better off if it didn't include any humans.

“Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’” jokes director Joss Whedon to EW.

All those other Ultrons on the cover tease some additional enemies the Avengers will need to deal with, all while juggling a pair of shifty newcomers in Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), as well as the insanely powerful Vision (Paul Bettany).

Stay tuned for lots more of this movie when Marvel reveals loads of nerdy details (and hopefully the first footage) next week at San Diego Comic-Con.

Update: Here are some more pics from EW.
