Arnold Schwarzenegger’s getting back to his roots. After a stint as the Governor of California (and some personal family strife), the action icon is back in front of the camera starring in a series of big projects that he hopes will return him to his glory days as one of the kings of the box office.
The guys at Collider recently had a chance to chat with The Governator, and in typical Arnold fashion the actor was candid about what he thought of the last Terminator film and his upcoming slate of projects. Read on for the choicest of quotes.
The most interesting comments from the discussion didn't involve things like a sequel to Twins (which, honestly, sounds absolutely dreadful), but some of the other big projects from his past that he’d like to revisit – mainly the ones that involved James Cameron.
When the topic of a True Lies 2 came up, Schwarzenegger was quick to exclaim that he’d love to do it, but that the timing probably isn’t right.
“Or True Lies 2, with that we’ll probably have to wait a little bit because it’s more of a family kind of a movie, the family dynamic works. My personal situation doesn’t work so well right now. Until that’s settled, then we can go off and do that again, with family subjects. [laughs]”
While we’d certainly love to see a sequel to that film – once Arnold’s family situation settles down and Cameron’s done with Avatar and his series of deep sea dives – we’d be even more excited to see Schwarzenegger return to the Terminator franchise. Luckily, the actor is up for it. Of course, he did offer up his critique of McG’s Terminator: Salvation too.
“[I’m open to] all those things, if it’s True Lies, Terminator, a well-made Terminator…the last one was awful. It tried hard, not that they didn’t try, the acting and everything. It missed the boat.”
While we tend to agree with that assessment, let’s all remember that Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines wasn’t exactly a high point for the franchise either. We’d love to see Arnold back, but only if there’s a shot at making something on par with the first two films in the series. If that’s not possible, we’re completely cool with them never making another movie in the series – even though a fifth film is currently in development.
What do you guys think? Is another Terminator or a True Lies sequel something you want to see or do you have some other project you'd love for Schwarzenegger to tackle? Let us know below.
