A Familiar Face Is Now Rumored to Play Batman in the 'Justice League' Movie

Oct 09, 2012

We're still a ways away from that Justice League movie, which, like Marvel's The Avengers, will team up most of DC's most popular characters on the big screen, like Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Wonder Woman. But who's going to play these superheroes if, as rumored, Warner Bros. casts all new faces instead of using actors or actresses currently or previously involved in other DC movies? Well, the studio might start by looking back at their previous version of Justice League, which, until it was canned due to the writer's strike, had an entire cast lined up and ready to go.

It's good timing, too, because at least one member of that old cast has watched his star power grow tremendously since then. Moviehole reports that Warner Bros. is already eying up Armie Hammer to return as Batman after the actor was all set to play the character in the other version. At the time no one knew who he was, but now Hammer is a hot commodity, having starred in The Social Network, Mirror Mirror and the upcoming The Lone Ranger. He'd be a good fit for the role, and someone the fan community would embrace. The site adds that the current Justice League script has a younger version of Batman (or at least younger than Christian Bale), and so Hammer makes sense.

We're still not sure exactly how the studio will approach Justice League, but we believe they'll be using the film to launch and relaunch a number of DC characters instead of first putting them in solo movies, a la Marvel. The only one who will have a solo movie is Superman (in Man of Steel, due next summer), and we get a sense that Warner Bros. wants to see how that turns out before they push for Henry Cavill and/or Zack Snyder's involvement in Justice League

If Warner is in love with Snyder's Superman, we wouldn't be surprised if it lets the director take charge on Justice League, with Cavill and Hammer leading it up as Superman and Batman. We'll see how it plays out in the coming months, but for now consider this another in what's sure to be a long line of rumors leading up to official confirmations.
