After several release date changes, it looks like Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego’s Apollo 18 is set to fly audiences to the (very) dark side of the moon on September 2nd. With that date rapidly approaching, The Weinstein Company decided this was as good a time as any to release a new trailer for the film.
The spooky new clip debuted at Yahoo! Movies and offers another tantalizing glimpse into what the movie is about – without really telling the viewer anything. Apollo 18 is set to join the ranks of Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity in the ever-more-crowded faux documentary film category. Audiences seem to flock to these fictional films that create an illusion of being real – and Lopez-Gallego’s film might be the most convincing of all.
While plot details remain scarce, the gist of Apollo 18 is that it chronicles a secret NASA mission to the moon in the 1970s. The astronauts get more than they bargained for when they find a shattered Soviet cosmonaut’s helmet and encounter strange happenings – which they capture on camera. The question is, is there something out there or is this a case of space madness? Audiences will have to wait until September 2nd – barring any more release date changes – to find out the answer to that question. Until then, enjoy this new trailer and swing by the Cerberus Station 9 viral site for more Apollo 18 goodies.
