Last week there really wasn't a whole lot known about the sequel to Captain America other than it had an April 4, 2014 release and that TV veterans Joe and Anthony Russo would be directing it. Then Marvel revealed at Comic-Con the final title for the movie would be Captain America: The Winter Soldier, giving fans a lot of insight considering that's also the name of a popular storyline introduced in the 2000s involving the reanimation of Cap's sidekick Bucky (Sebastian Stan) as a bad guy.
And while you'd think giving fans plenty to speculate on would be enough buzz for now, the Cap news doesn't stop there. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Anthony Mackie is in talks to costar in the film. The outlet further says that Marvel wouldn't confirm who he'd be playing, but they do say, "it is believed that Mackie will portray the Falcon, one of mainstream comics' first black superheroes and perhaps its first American one."
So if you were hoping Mackie would be playing the Black Panther, a role many fans wanted to see him in when new rumors of a Black Panther movie emerged not long ago, you might be out of luck. But considering Falcon was at one time a pretty prominent figure in the world of Captain America, essentially playing his sidekick, it at least seems like Mackie will be an equally prominent figure in the sequel. As for Falcon's powers, he's got a special suit that lets him fly, and he has a psychic connection to birds.
So what say you, is Mackie right for Falcon? Do you even want to see Falcon as Captain America's sidekick?
