Even though her character's motivations became flimsier as the film went on, we still think Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) was one of the best parts of The Dark Knight Rises. She played the part perfectly instead of purrfectly, removing some of Catwoman's more shticky sensibilities and replacing them with a cool, collected and kick-ass demeanor that was a lot of fun to watch play out. She reminded us more of a Bond Girl than the Catwoman we've all come to know; a mischievous beauty who's quick with her hands and smart as a whip -- a girl who at times is good, then bad, then somewhere in between. Quite frankly, this is a character we'd like to see more of.
And according to recent quotes, Hathaway would be down with playing her in a spin-off. She told Digital Spy, "I think it would be lovely to see more of her but only if it's with the right people. She lives in this Gotham City and so it would have to be established by the people who have made this Gotham City. For me, at least."
She's most likely referring to Christopher Nolan, who previously said that while he'd love to see her story continue, he won't be the one taking it on. His time in Gotham has come to an end, recently telling Access Hollywood, "For me, Gotham and these characters, I’m done. I’ve told our story and I’m moving on." But .... "I certainly think she deserves it; she’s incredible.”
She is incredible, and seeing this character in her own spin-off that's less a superhero movie and more a fun, intricate heist film might be the way to go. Then again, maybe it's best if we just retire this trilogy and its characters, and move onto the next version. Is there anything about this Selina Kyle that we still need to see revealed? Perhaps Nolan can just quench our Hathaway thirst by casting her in his next movie instead.
What do you think? Is a Catwoman spin-off necessary or even desired at this point?
