It’s hard to believe it’s been six years since the film community lost the intensely passionate Heath Ledger. In the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s passing, an actor who shared Ledger’s darker proclivities and became a confidant to the Dark Knight star, we are reminded again of Ledger’s riveting talent.
The actor is remembered in one of Blank on Blank’s delightful animated interview entries, culled from a 2005 chat Ledger had with writer Christine Spines while walking along his Brooklyn neighborhood. Three-time Oscar winner Brokeback Mountain was about to be released. Ledger had just celebrated the birth of his daughter, Matilda Rose Ledger, with Brokeback costar Michelle Williams. In the movie, Williams plays the wife of Ledger’s conflicted cowboy. “I could have stayed like that for years. It was very, very, very sweet,” Ledger said of their budding relationship on set.
The interview, set to Blank on Blank’s playful, thoughtful animations, delves into Ledger’s methodology (“My nervous energy is usually the easiest form of energy to tap into”), the power of observation (“People generally express more in between their sentences when they’re not speaking”), and more.
