Angry Birds and 'Star Wars' Join Forces for New Game That Fans Will Hate, but Play Anyway

Oct 08, 2012

It's no secret that LucasFilm has gone to great lengths in recent years to keep their Star Wars brand current and consistently fresh in pop-culture minds, reinventing the franchise for each generation in ways that directly appeal to them. Sure, those hard-core fans of the original franchise who grew up obsessing over Star Wars action figures, lunch boxes and Luke Skywalker Halloween costumes may think it's just a blatant cash grab because they're adults now, but in reality it's a smart play by George Lucas to keep attracting young kids to a series that has brought a lot of joy to a whole lot of people over the years. Now, their next venture: A new Angry Birds game featuring all Star Wars characters.

Yup, Angry Birds Star Wars is heading our way November 8, and it'll be available for iOS, Android and computers. According to USA Today, the game won't feature the birds and pigs taking on Star Wars personalities, but instead "they are the characters in their own right," says Paul Southern, vice president of licensing and consumer products for Lucasfilm. An example given is that the Red Bird will take on the character of Luke Skywalker as an X-Wing pilot from Episode IV: A New Hope, while Princess Leia, Han Solo, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader will also make appearances.

Check out the teaser trailer below, and feel free to complain about Lucas selling out once again even though you know you'll be playing this game constantly like the rest of the world.
