The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn't officially arrive until this Thursday, but to get the ball rolling we have these short little international teasers that are meant to whet your appetite for the real thing.
The great thing about these -- or, well, the first one at least -- is that they don't tease villains or a love story or a major action sequence. Instead, they tease more of Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man, aka Andrew Garfield) jet-setting high above the streets of New York City, flying from building to building while taking the audience along with him. These were some of the best moments of The Amazing Spider-Man, and we're glad to see them front and center in these teasers.
Many complained when they announced a Spider-Man reboot so soon after Sam Raimi's trilogy, but it was moments like these -- moments that saw Spidey master his powers by conquering the gorgeous New York City landscape -- that truly separated Marc Webb's franchise from Sam Raimi's. For the first time the audience was experiencing what it was like to be Spider-Man, with some scenes shot from Spidey's perspective, and it was pretty magnificent.
Rumor has it that we'll not only get a new trailer on Thursday, but also a title. The Amazing Spider-Man: Rise of Electro is what's being thrown around now, and if it sticks it's a title that highlights the film's main villain, but also hints at a larger universe beyond this film. More of that is also teased in this poster that was spotted late last week in Las Vegas, specifically with that tagline: "His greatest battle begins." Begins? Rise? Is it just us or are we sensing some Bat-envy?
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2.
