All Hail Oscar Frontrunner The King's Speech on DVD and Blu-ray This April

Feb 03, 2011

After a few years of doling out Oscars to grab headlines ("First female Best Director!" "First African-American Best Actress!"), the grizzled dog that is the Academy seems to be returning to its old tricks by rewarding traditional, old-fashioned moviemaking. The King's Speech—an acclaimed biopic of King George VI—recently got nominated for an egg carton's worth of little gold men, including Best Actor (Colin Forth), Best Supporting Actor (Geoffrey Rush), Best Supporting Actress (Helena Bonham Carter) and, of course, Best Picture. Shocking, we know.

Starz/Anchor Bay—usually a bastion of indie horror films—will bring its awards darling home on DVD and Blu-ray on April 19. Supplements include audio commentary by director Tom Hooper, a 20-minute "Making of The King's Speech," actual archival footage of the real King George VI and much more.
