Here's a Short Doc About the World's Most Dangerous Amusement Park

Pictured: Yes, this is an actual upside-down water slide that was featured at Action Park.

For those who grew up in the New York/New Jersey area in the 1980s and '90s, chances are you experienced Action Park at least once in your life. For most kids from the area, there were several amusement parks to visit, with Great Adventure and Dorney Park usually nabbing the most amount of traffic from school trips, family outings and so on. But Action Park, which has been closed since 1996 (and for good reason), was a whole different story, with rides that took risks and banged you up. And if you weren't getting injured on one of their rides, you were losing your wallet or your glasses or your lunch.

The water rides at Action Park were legendary, and most of them involved you swinging, sliding or jumping into a ridiculously cold pool of water. One side of the park was almost always in the shade, and so the water was ice cold. It'd take about 20 minutes of psyching yourself up for the ride, and not because of the ride itself, but because of the freakin' cold water at the end of it.

Ah, memories. The scars, the drunk teens operating every ride (who one time closed an entire ride because my buddy lost his fake ID while on it) and the sheer absurdity of this place is nicely summed up in this short documentary over on Mashable, which actually comes in two parts (the second installment arrives Thursday).

You can scope out the entire video above or over on Mashable, but while you're still here we thought we'd reminisce some more with these Action Park commercials. If you're from the area, you'll recognize these immediately since it felt like they aired these things on a constant loop every single day during the warmer months.

Do you have any fond Action Park memories? Share them below... [hat tip to Matt Singer]
